Wow! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our second sprint of activity to make Daubeney Road 10 x Greener.
We want everyone to to benefit from living and working on a greener street. There are 365 households on Daubeney Road. Over the weekend (April 21/22) the community helped make nearly 1 in 3 a bit greener.
Over 100 people helped fill over 160 recycled (and recyclable) plastic window boxes, 15 planters made from reclaimed wood and 73 plant pots with soil and seeds. As long as they are watered, there will be pollinator friendly nasturtium, poppies, cosmos and other flowers exploding out of these over the summer. We seeded hundreds of pollinator friendly herbs and sixty hops too – so we may well be able to enjoy some chive sandwiches and Daubeney ale later in the year.
Nearby on Ashenden Road, some giant planters were made for a dead space. Made from reclaimed wood, these will be stunning in the summer. It’s great to see more and more people filling these dead spaces with life.
Finally, we were fortunate to be joined by a roofer who fitted five swift and sparrow boxes on houses and in the Daubeney Fields Forever community garden. Hopefully we’ll have some residents in them before our next sprint in May (12th/13th).
